In April 2024 I was lucky enough to travel to Limpopo, South Africa to help build a school with students from my alma mater, the University of Nottingham. I fundraised all the money to cover my transport and accommodation, as well as my share of the build costs. I joined phase two out of three so unfortunately didn’t get to see the finished build but was very happy to see photos and videos from the opening day two weeks after I left.
I learned so much from this trip, much more than I’d learn in the average fortnight sitting at my desk that’s for sure, and it was an experience I will never forget. The look of joy on the headmistress' face as she walked round the school, telling us how excited she was for the new building, was priceless and made the blood, sweat, and tears (of joy) worthwhile.
